Project Details
The new construction consists of approximately 116,000 square feet. The building is three stories, with the ground level housing a classroom wing for Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade, the first floor consists of 3rd through 5th grade classrooms, the office/admin suite, the media center, cafeteria/kitchen, the gymnasium, special instructional areas such as the music room and stage, as well as the community area. The second floor consists of a classroom wing for the middle school, including technology and science labs. Each floor also contains supporting spaces for the associated programs on that floor.
This school was constructed on an accelerated timeline so that BCPS could occupy the building after the winter break. The new 116,000 sf, 800 student facility is designed to promote interactive and flexible learning environments, enhance life-safety and accessibility, integrate security measures, provide educational opportunities during both school and non-school hours, incorporate sustainable materials and practices, and much more. All three classroom wings, P-K through 2nd grade, 3rd through 5th grade and 6th through 8th grade, contain dedicated Collaborative Learning Areas which are centralized to make the spaces open and easily accessible.
The building achieved LEED Gold status, registered by the U.S. Green Building Council.
