- Type of project: Equipment Replacement
- Location: Waldorf, MD
Project Details
The scope of work included the replacement of all existing roof mounted air handling equipment, replacement of the existing oil fired steam boilers with new high efficiency gas fired hot water boilers, reconfiguration of the existing 2-pipe distribution system to allow for a 4-pipe system during the future building renovation/addition phase, and replace all domestic hot water generating equipment.
The replacement Air Handling equipment is being designed to temporarily (3-5 years) reuse the existing multi-zone air distribution systems while also reusing the existing 2-pipe dual temperature hydronic system while having the flexibility to be easily converted to a full variable air volume single zone air distribution system and 4-pipe hydronic distribution system during the future renovation/addition phase (2019-2020). New pumping systems were variable flow so as to accommodate current and future flow requirements. New air handling equipment will also be variable flow for energy efficiency as well as to provide the capacity and flexibility to easily adapt to future conditions when the building is renovated.
All existing local pneumatic automatic temperature control systems were replaced with new direct digital controlled electric/electronic actuation system interlocked with the county energy management system.
A new gas service was provided to the school to serve and enhance the efficiency for both comfort heating and domestic water heating.
Based on the limited time to design and install, all major equipment was bid and pre-purchased prior to bidding the project and assigned to the contractor to accommodate summer of 2016 construction.
