Billingsley Elementary School
Project Quick Facts
The scope of work included a new 105,000 square foot Elementary School. The school was designed to be LEED Silver Certified. A hybrid geothermal system utilizing a supplemental cooling tower for heat rejection and multiple high efficiency gas fired boilers were utilized for supplemental heating. Strategically located Air Handling Penthouses were located throughout the building to house mechanical and electrical equipment including Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) units, Air Handling Units and Vertical Ducted Water to Air Geothermal heat Pumps utilizing multiple speed compressors and ECM fan motors. The Office Administration suite is being served by a Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) system and tied into the buildings geothermal loop. All ventilation air for the building is pretreated by high efficiency heat recovery devices. Assembly spaces additionally utilize demand Controlled ventilation, dehumidification control and variable air flow for enhanced energy savings.
Plumbing systems included domestic hot and cold water, sanitary, storm water, natural gas and the entire building is protected by a wet pipe sprinkler system. All utilities were coordinated with the various utility companies.
Electrical systems include power distribution, controllable LED interior lighting, LED exterior lighting, emergency power, fire alarm system, security system and Voice/Video/Data systems. Sub metering and a dashboard system were designed as Add Alternates. Additionally a display window located in the cafeteria chase included geothermal loop circuit piping with thermometers, flow meter with flow rate display, site flow indicators and pressure gauges to allow students to see how the building is using the Earths stored energy to heat and cool the building. Additional energy conserving features include Demand Kitchen Hood Ventilation system which modulates the Kitchen Hood exhaust flow rate and associated make-up air requirement based on heat output of the kitchen equipment located under the kitchen hood.
